Zhou Bai was leaning against the head of the hospital bed and giving his assistant a briefing, when he was taken aback by Jian Ci’s complexion. Sitting up instantly, he asked, “Why? Did something happen?”

That was supposed to be Jian Ci’s line, but Zhou Bai said it first, hence Jian Ci was unsure how to receive the baton. 

“I… you…” Jian Ci caught his breath with great difficulty, “Are you okay? Why are you suddenly admitted?”

Zhou Bai returned to reality, is this not obvious?

Jian Ci cares about him! He even turned pale from worrying that something might have happened to him. 

Aware of this, Zhou Bai felt better tenfold. “I’m fine, come here and sit, and drink some water,” he patted his bed and said.

Jian Ci took a glass of water from the assistant, drank a few mouthfuls and asked, “What are you down with?”

“Nothing serious, just a cold turned pneumonia.”

Knowing that it was not a life-threatening illness, Jian Ci heaved a great sigh of relief.

Zhou Bai noticed that Jian Ci’s face had regained its colour, and he coughed a few times on cue, “But my chest feels stuffy.”

The assistant possessed good situational awareness; he excused himself right after tidying up the documents, and since those that urgently needed the president’s signature had been signed, he would be blinded by their display of affection if he continued to linger. 

Jian Ci extended his hand with the intention of helping him to cool down, but upon seeing the top buttons of Zhou Bai’s patient gown unfastened, exposing a small area of neck and chest muscles, he retracted his hand and pointed towards the door instead. “That… I’ll go help with the admission procedures and will be back later.”

“Mm,” Zhou Bai agreed while remaining aloof, pretending to care less. 

After Jian Ci left the ward, he unbuttoned one more button of his patient gown.
